What is Internet? It is a tool, which can link up all the people around the world, or we can say that it is a net that we can’t see. Internet brings us a lot of convenience; people depend on it very much nowadays. But as we know, it also can act as a weapon. Is it a blessing or a curse?
Whichever it may be the internet has proved it self very helpful tool in many ways, it has opened a gateway for people; it made it possible for us to communicate with people from the other side of the world. Allowing us to meet new people and discover new places even though we are not there. The internet is easily accessible to everyone because it is inexpensive and can be afforded by most.
While some consider it as a blessing others regard it as a curse, because the internet like everything else in the world has a good and a bad side to it. The one of the main reasons that many people blame is that there is no sense of censorship in the world of the internet.
Without censorship many things spin out of control. People start using the internet as a method of spying rather than a manner of communication they abuse this blessing by placing information or data that is unacceptable such as hacking, others may use it for fraud or theft. When these actions are committed they are considered a as a form of crime, and like all other crimes they are intolerable by society.
A student no longer needs to spend long hours in libraries searching for a desired piece of information. A web search engine can provide the needed material just at a click of a button and no matter which remote corner of the world you are in, the Internet will keep you side by side of the latest developments in your area of interest.
As with every new technology there are those who speak high of the Internet and there are those who portray it in an unfavorable source of knowledge. And as with other new technologies there is nothing wrong with the Internet itself. It is we who are to decide whether the internet is a curse or a blessing.

It depends on the way the Internet is used. If used correctly it can give boost to the organization, if used badly, it can be a reason to lead you to jail. Internet technology is very powerful.

The Internet is a place where the world can connect each other. I will say that Internet is good or bad it depends on the user's behavior and the way people are using.

DeleteYour article shines some light. I remember what the world was like without the Internet. In many ways it was better. In some ways it wasn't. If the Internet vanished tomorrow, could I cope? You bet. People did without it for thousands of years. And they were just fine.
ReplyDeleteBut we know it's not going to go away because it is part of a larger process that revolves around the sands of an hourglass. But that's another story.
Since the Internet is both good and bad, you could think of it as a large book. In this book we find just about anything. Pages and pages of information. This includes pornography and pictures of people being mrudered. And guess what? Your child gets to sit down and look at this book unmonitored. So who does it take to change that? Parents. In other words, people who care. This rules out the government. They don't give a damn about people. Therefore, it will require a very proactive movement to regulate the Internet in the way that satisfies the people who use it. But my idea of regulation isn't like policing the Internet.
The best way to solve our online problems is to first create 100% accountability. Every single person should be identified when they go online. They should be "fingerprinted" just to surf. Thus, every move they make leaves a trail. Think about it. 20 years ago, you couldn't do anything without being held accountable. Why should things be any different now? If someone searches for child porn, they are held accountable. If someone goes on Facebook, big deal. If they search for underwear on Amazon.com, so be it. If they flirt with a 7 year old girl on chat, they are held accountable. If they illegally download pirated software, they are held accountable. Even though the files may be hidden in an archive, at least there is a trail of tears.
By making ALL people accountable, the way the Internet is used will change. All the good stuff will remain, while all the bad stuff will become neglected due to fear of getting caught. Isn't this the same fear people knew about for many generations in the past? You bet. But right now, everyone's name is "anonymous". And that's what is wrong with the Internet. Too much secrecy.
